Architecture in Perspective

If you love architectural illustration, this is the one conference you won’t want to miss.

October 3–5, 2019
Hollywood, CA

About the conference

The Architecture in Perspective conference invites students, professionals and enthusiasts of architecture and environmental art to join other artists and design professionals from around the world to share in their common passion. This year, the conference will be held in sunny Hollywood CA for 3 days of sharing ideas, techniques, and a love for architectural illustration.

The event is a truly unique opportunity to get together in a lively discussion with a panel of experts from various fields including game design, architecture, AR/VR and more. This truly exemplifies ASAI, as the organization is united in its love of architecture and visualization, regardless of the medium. The AIP conference, having existed for more than a generation now, helps bring people together with this in mind and is the primary exhibition of contemporary architectural illustration.

Grab your sketching and painting supplies or a camera and walk through some iconic Hollywood sites.

  • Melissa Weese: "Drawing Relationships - Engaging Interactions through the Hand Sketch" [1:30 pm]

Melissa Weese: "Drawing Relationships - Engaging Interactions through the Hand Sketch" [1:30 pm]

In the current design office, there is significant investment in rendering soft- and hardware, and virtual reality (VR) tools to engage the client in the design process. However, in some cases, the simple hand sketch can more efficiently and effectively engage the client.

I will look at ways that the hand sketch has been used to advantage to solicit winning proposals, quickly establish a design approach and foster positive working relationships amongst team members and with clients.

I’ll also briefly discuss the relationship between drawing and the development of three-dimensional perception in professional training.

  • Eric de Broche des Combes: "25 Years of Stress" [3:00 pm]

Eric de Broche des Combes: "25 Years of Stress" [3:00 pm]

25 years of stress is a pause for reflection on what role visualisation plays in architecture and inversely so. In a Dickensian contemplation we take a look at how architectural renderings have developed and are still developing from the past to the present day, and to where they are conceivably heading in our foreseeable future. It’s burdensome to eat the Bee sandwich but the alternative is an illusional reality devoid of true responsibility and lack of foresight.

  • Awards Reception [6:00 pm]

    Awards Reception [6:00 pm]

It’s almost time for the awards! Now’s a great time to chat up your fellow illustrators and maybe even get them to autograph your Architecture in Perspective 34 catalog. It’s a bit like collecting signatures for your high school yearbook — that is if everyone who went to your high school was an architectural illustrator.

  • Architecture in Perspective Awards Ceremony [7:00 pm]

Architecture in Perspective Awards Ceremony [7:00 pm]

It’s time to announce the Architecture in Perspective award winners. Think of it like the Oscars for architectural illustration.
